With the mission to continue to provide more opportunities for the athletes we engage with, the Institute of Rugby has evolved the touring offering that now expands beyond United States borders.

In August of 2017, the Institute was first represented at the North American Invitational 7’s Tournament, held in Salt Lake City Utah where the Girls U18 team placed 3rd overall. You can read the full report of the NAI7s GU18 performance here. With the success and excitement stirred from the initial tour launch, the Institute of Rugby has searched globally for international touring opportunities.

In April of 2018, the Institute of Rugby will be selecting a Boys U18, 15’s team that will participate in a two week tour to South Africa, touring and competing in Cape Town, Durban and other local cities. “The boys tour to South Africa is a once in a  lifetime opportunity for these young athletes to experience the beauty and culture of one of the greatest rugby playing countries in the world. This trip will expose these boys to a world they have never seen before and the caliber of rugby they will be playing against will be amongst the highest of any school boy rugby on the globe.” Greg Foreman, SCYR Board Member. The South Africa tour will be led by Institute of Rugby Coach and former USA 7s Captain and Coach, Matthew Hawkins. For more information on tour details and itinerary please click here.

The Institute of Rugby will also be selecting 25 athletes for a Girls U19, 15s team to tour Lisbon, Portugal and compete in the Portugal Youth Rugby Festival from April 1st – 9th, 2018. Head Coach Hannah Harper (Lockwood), former USA 7s Eagle and Collegiate All-American, will be accompanied by Team USA Rugby Olympian and USA 15s World Cup Eagle Alev Kelter and USA 7s Eagle and USA 15s World Cup Eagle, Kate Zackary for the tour. Both Kelter and Zackary come to the coaching staff with extensive international rugby experience and look forward to working with athletes who are selected for the tour. “I look forward to sharing this international experience with these talented young players. Having the opportunity to coach the future of USA Rugby is something I feel fortunate to be apart of.” – Kate Zackary. For more information on the itinerary and girls U19 tour please click here.
