THE CALIFORNIA STATE GAMES

California State Games is a statewide amateur sports festival and a 501(c) 3 non-profit organization. The mission of the Games is to promote and nurture the health, education, and well-being of residents by managing a high quality amateur sports event that encourages community participation and provides an olympic-style experience. The first California State Games was held in 1988. We host the California Winter Games and the California State Games summer event which impacts over 12,000 athletes every year!

Since 2016, the Institute of Rugby has partnered with the California State Games to host the 7s Rugby tournament. In 2016, the tournament had 70 teams and over 800 athletes in divisions U10-U18 participate. As we look towards 2017, we are excited about the growth of the event and the positive impact it has on our rugby community in California.

YOUTH ENRICHMENT PROGRAMS

The Institute of Rugby is dedicated to not only elevating the high performing athletes in our community, but also activating youth enrichment programs through schools and local community organizations. These programs are all-inclusive, non-contact based programs designed to inspire children to fall in love with rugby.

Currently we have a number of programs operating seasonally and year round. We are always eager to activate new programs in our community.

URBAN DISCOVERY ACADEMY

Since the spring of 2016, the Institute of Rugby has brought rugby to students in the after school enrichment program at the Urban Discovery Academy. Boys and Girls in grades K-5 have the opportunity to play a non-contact rugby in a fun co-ed environment. Institute of Rugby coaches also facilitate homework help time and crafts.

THE WALDORF SCHOOL

Since the fall of 2016, the Institute of Rugby has brought in-school rugby programming to the middle school and high school age boys and girls at the Waldorf School. The program runs for four weeks during their fall physical education curriculum and students get to work with Institute of Rugby coaches to learn the basics of the non-contact version of the game.

WANT RUGBY AT YOUR SCHOOL?

Want rugby to be introduced to the students at your school? The Institute of Rugby is always looking to bring rugby to the children of our community and rugby demonstrations through physical education programs is a great way to do that! Email our program manager to get more info on how you can bring rugby to your school.

SAN DIEGO GIRLS RUGBY

In 2016, the Institute of Rugby launched a new program designed to activate girls rugby within our local community. As a community we have the opportunity to positively impact young girls lives through the sport of rugby, empowering her to grow up to be a strong and confident woman. Research shows that girls participating in sports will be better contributors to society as adults. Specifically, these girls will develop leadership skills, communication skills, be great team players, be fit, healthy, and confident.

At the Institute of Rugby we believe in providing more opportunities for girls to participate in the sport of rugby and the San Diego Girls Rugby program is just one of many ways we provide that within our community.
